Biography

Bidhu Jha, a Winnipeg resident for the last 33 years, was elected as MLA for the constituency of Radisson on June 3, 2003. Prior to his election, Bidhu served as the president and CEO of Optimum Trading Corporation Ltd., specializing in international trade, investments and business development. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and has post-graduate training in Industrial Engineering and Management.

Bidhu was the first Canadian to produce a full length feature film in Manitoba in the Hindi language. He worked with legendary talent from India, including famous director Hrishikesh Mukherjee. His feature, entitled "Naamumkin," did very well at the box offices in Canada and India.

A recipient of the inaugural and prestigious Asia Pacific Award of Entrepreneurship from the Asper School of Business (Univerity of Manitoba), Bidhu has excelled in developing innovative business solutions in Manitoba and in Canada. His international business experience led him to work as a senior consultant to several leading Canadian corporations in developing export markets.

Bidhu has a long history of service to both private and public business enterprises. He has been on the board of Manitoba Telephone Systems and the Deer Lodge Foundation. He sat on the province's Crown Corporations Council and is a former board member of the Canadian Cancer Society. He has also been on the advisory committee to the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Manitoba and at Red River Community College.

Bidhu's commitment to his community and his services to humanity were recognized last year when the Lieutenant Governor presented him with a Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal. In recognition of his many skills and accomplishments, Premier Gary Doer appointed Bidhu as his Legislative Assistant in October, 2004. Bidhu had previously served as the Legislative Assistant to the Minister of Energy, Science and Technology.

Bidhu is committed to Manitoba's health care and the province's economic development. He believes that he can put his progressive business management skills to work to help make Radisson a healthy, prosperous, environmentally safe community.
